Shop to Donate: by Jean Saffell, Cyber-Sierra ![]() Shop through iGive One of the great things about the Internet is how it expands our opportunities. The whole world is at our fingertips. I always think of the Internet as a giant library with no card catalog. It also happens to be a giant shopping center. Many people like to shop online as well as look for information. I know I do. Just think about what you spent shopping online last year? Wouldn't it be wonderful if a portion of the money you spent was donated BY THE STORE to the Oak Run Community Library? Well, you can make that possible! I found a way that you can shop at the world's great stores and help our Library at the same time. A company called iGive.com has attracted a large number of well known online stores to it's virtual shopping center. Stores like Amazon Books, Barned and Nobles, Pet Direct, Blair and even the aution site eBay all have a donation arrangements with iGive.Com. You buy something, they donate. To use iGive's shopping center, everyone is asked to join (free) and designate a favorite cause. Why? Because the shops at iGive.Com donate a portion of each purchase made through iGive to the cause you select. It doesn't cost anymore to shop through iGive. The prices for goods is the same. You do have to start from the iGive web site. I've set up the Oak Run Community Library as my designated cause. I've also established an easy way for you to join and make your shopping dollars do double duty, too. Simply click on the iGive image below (or to the right) and take a look for yourself. How does it work? By starting your shopping at the iGive web site, your purchases are identified as benefitting the cause you selected. Then as the dollars and cents accumulate iGive.com sends a check to your cause. If several people designate the same cause the donations will add up faster. So I am asking you to join with me in shopping to support the Library! Does it work? Yes, it does. I've used iGive.com for several years and I know that they do send real checks to the cause I designate. Now that I live in the Oak Run area, I selected the Oak Run Community Library to be my favorite cause. I hope you'll do the same! Here's what to do: Just click on the icon below and follow the directions to join. Joining is free. You will get a e-newsletter from iGive a couple of times a month listing new stores, special double donation opportunities, etc. Bookmark your page or add it to your favorites. When you shop, remember to go to iGive and select your store. Shop as usual. Start at iGive and a portion of your purchases will be donated to the Oak Run Library by the store through the iGive.com donation system. Prices are the same, and many stores offer special sales or free shipping just for iGive members. It's a great way to support our Library! P.S. There may be other ways to "shop to donate", but this is the best deal I've found so far. If you find a different one, or a better one, let me know! ![]() Shop through iGive
